Principal
Calvin Dix
NCIDQ
Biography:
Calvin Dix, a graduate of Woodbury University with a degree in interior design, commenced
his career in the design industry. He initially worked for a small design firm specializing in
casino design but subsequently transitioned to a firm specializing in showrooms at the Los
Angeles Fashion Mart. However, this role did not align with his aspirations.
In 1982, Calvin made the decision to pursue hospitality design and joined Hirsch/Bedner
and Associates, where he worked directly under Howard Hirsch and Michael Bedner. He
diligently absorbed their knowledge and contributed to the design of several Hilton,
Marriott, and Hyatt hotels.
In 1990, Calvin relocated to Barry Design and oversaw the renovation of the Sheraton
Phuket and Sheraton Maui, as well as designing restaurants in Mexico City. He briefly held a
position at Design One before its closure, where he worked on the Trump Worlds Fair hotel
and casino.
In 1999, Calvin joined Wilson and Associates and completed the Four Seasons Carlsbad.
In 2000, he was rehired by Hirsch/Bedner and assumed the role of a senior associate.
During his tenure at HBA, he designed and completed numerous prestigious projects,
including a 27-story residential building in Mumbai, a private hotel in Suzhou, China, a
high-stakes casino in Macau, the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, a private hotel and spa in
Busan, Korea, and a golf clubhouse in Miyazaki, Japan.
Calvin’s professional portfolio also encompasses designing the Hyatt Mecca, a privately
owned hotel in Mongolia, and several high-end show flats in China.
